FLETCHERS LAKE: A garage that was attached to a home in Fletchers Lake was destroyed in an early morning fire that sent fire crew to the scene on Nov. 24.

Gord West with Halifax Fire said the attached garage was a complete loss, with some damage into the home located near Holland Road. The home, with blue siding, had just recently been sold and sits along Lake Fletcher.

“The garage was fully involved upon firefighters arrival,” said West on Nov. 24.

At 3:30 a.m., 911 received a call of a fire in an attached garage at a location in the area, resulting in approximately 30 firefighters from Station 45 Fall River; Station 42 Wellington; Station 41 Waverley; Station 43 Grand Lake; and Tac 48 Beaver Bank.

Mutual aid response came from Lantz; Enfield; Elmsdale; and Nine Mile River. Enfield, Elmsdale, and Nine Mile River all had arrived on scene, but were stood down shortly after arriving.

Firefighters utilized the hydrant by Subway as a fill site.

Highway 2 between 3300 near Fall River Road to the 4100 block Hwy 2 near Collins Drive was closed for about two hours as crews worked the scene.

West said one person, the homeowner, was home at the time of the call, but he was able to get out on his own uninjured.

He said there was no immediate danger to neighbours, some who were unaware of any fire until later in the day and when they saw our story online, or the firefighters at the scene.

A propane tank was removed by the crew from Tanker 42 Wellington.

Dave Meldrum, Deputy Chief with Halifax Fire, said it was a quick response by fire crews.

“A fast attack by arriving crews prevented fire spread into the house,” Meldrum told The Laker News.

A sold sign has been on the front lawn of the home for a few days. According to a relative of the homeowner, the man who lived there was to be moving soon.

The relative said besides the garage, a car located outside the garage was also destroyed.

West said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
