Name: Kevin Copley
Community: Beaver Bank (Sackville-Preston-Chezzetcook)
Family: I was born in a small Cape Breton community to loving, hard-working parents. I am the grandson of a miner and farmer and from an early age I was taught the value of hard work and the importance of community and helping others.
Since 2009, I have been living in Beaver Bank with my wife Jennifer, an elementary school teacher who grew up with her family in the community. Six years ago, we welcomed our first of two sons Charlie, and two years later we welcomed our second son Alex. In July, the Copleys welcomed newborn Julia to their family. The Copleys also have a loving golden retriever, Maggie May.
Profession: Proposal Development Specialist – Rockwell Automation Canada
For the past 15 years, I have had a successful career in the private sector in industries including telecommunications, oil & gas, and most recently industrial automation. I have had the opportunity to work with partners across a number of sectors, including automotive, tire & rubber, oil & gas, energy, pulp & paper, food & beverage, and pharmaceuticals and I believe I bring a strong understanding of and appreciation for the Canadian companies, small and large, that drive our economy.
Why are you running?
Just one year after the 2015 election, I joined the Conservative Party of Canada. I knew we were on the wrong path for Canada and I wanted to be part of changing that path.
In 2015, the Liberal Party of Canada promised everything to everyone.
Four years later, we have a government that is failing Canadians.
They over-promised and have under-delivered.
I have been clear on why I am running – I believe politicians should do what they say they are going to. I am running to be an advocate for common sense, practical, achievable goals with a focus on continuous improvement for our region and our country.
What do you see as the top issue in your riding?
My team and I have knocked on over 10,000 doors in this riding to date, and while it isn’t federal jurisdiction, healthcare is the number one issue for those we’ve spoken to.
Next to that, affordability and cost of living are the issues that worry the residents we’ve spoken to and that is driven by anxiety over high taxes, less money in their pockets, high household debt, and job insecurity.
I am pleased to hear that our leader, Andrew Scheer understands the importance of our healthcare system has committed to maintain and increase the Canada Health Transfer (CHT) and the Canada Social Transfer (CST) by at least 3% per year.
And I am also pleased that our leader, and our party, are focused on making life more affordable for everyone, and not looking for new ways to tax Canadians and make the necessities more expensive.
Do you have a hidden talent?
If I do, it’s hidden from me too.
What is your hope for your riding?
My hope for our riding is that we don’t get fooled again. I hear over and over again that people have voter’s remorse over the last election. I hope voters will see through the rhetoric and unrealistic promises, and choose a Member of Parliament who is focused on helping us all get ahead.
