BELNAN: A highly touted defenceman from the Belnan area has been selected during the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League draft, held June 5-6.
Duncan Ramsay, who suited for the Major Bantam Rangers in 2017-2018, was selected by the Saint John Sea Dogs with the 70th pick overall in the fourth round. He had been pegged by QMJHL Central Scouting at no. 24. The Rangers play out of the East Hants Sportsplex in Lantz.
However, Ramsay had informed all teams interested he would likely be going the NCAA route, so that made him a risky pick and thus why his draft position fell. He was taken on the second day of the two-day virtual draft, held online only due to COVID19 restrictions.
Ramsay just finished off a great season with the Mount Academy Saints, a prep school team based in Charlottetown, P.E.I.
With the U16 team he compiled a goal and 10 assists in 15 games during Canadian Sport School Hockey league East play. With the U18 team, he played in five games and had no points.
In East Coast Elite League play U16 division, Ramsay had seven goals and 15 assists for 22 points in 16 games played with the Saints.

“We loved what we saw from him. A big bodied D-man who thinks the game well. Lots of potential and 6’3,” said chief scout Anthony Stella.
We hope to get a few comments from Duncan on being drafted in the coming days.
