FALL RIVER: A community volunteer and strong advocate that has a passion for the community he calls home is the first name drawn in the #WeMakeHappy campaign, a partnership between the Fall River Dairy Queen and The Laker News.

Lyle Mailman was the name drawn among the dozen or so names that had been submitted for the first week of the contest. Mailman’s name was submitted by a Fall River community member. He is a former teacher at Lockview High School in Fall River.

He picked up his winning 8” cake on Aug. 10, getting presented it by Peggy Rust, owner/franchisee of the Fall River DQ, and The Laker News part-owner/ad salesperson/reporter Pat Healey.

Hobbies: fishing; finding little things to help in the community; creating a fun opportunity for other families; giving time to his community.

Volunteering: he is the founder of the Beaver Bank Community Watch FB page to keep the community updated on happenings in the area; connecting residents in the community; arranged a Black Lives Matter march, showing support for those of African descent in the Beaver Bank area, bringing awareness that changes are needed; setup a community meeting when the transit bus to North Beaver Bank was axed; and helps with music afternoons at the BBKCC in the winter, among other things.

“I’m just trying to make Beaver Bank a better place that people feel more safe, supported, and a part of a positive community,” said Mailman.
