EAST HANTS: The community is being asked to come together to help three-year-old Rip Stevens, a little boy from Nova Scotia whose determination has inspired everyone around him.
When Rip was born, his family received heartbreaking news. Doctors said he had highly complex medical conditions, was terminal, and would likely never develop the ability to walk, talk, or achieve many developmental milestones.
But Rip has spent the last three years proving those predictions wrong.
Through determination, therapy, and the unwavering support of his mother, Taylor, Rip is now walking with support, actively working to communicate, and continuing to make remarkable progress that many once thought impossible.
Now, his family hopes to build on that momentum with an opportunity that could help unlock even more of his potential.

Taylor Moore, Rip’s mom, was born and raised in East Hants, but now calls Debert home.
Rip has been offered a spot in the internationally recognized SMILE Therapy (Sensory Motor Integrated Learning Experience) program in Toronto this October.
The intensive pediatric therapy program is designed specifically for children with complex medical and developmental needs, helping them improve motor skills, speech, mobility, and overall independence through immersive therapy.
The opportunity comes sooner than expected, but so does the financial challenge.
Taylor has exhausted the supports and resources currently available in Nova Scotia.
Because Rip does not qualify for the program’s accessibility funding, the family must raise between $10,000 and $15,000 to cover therapy costs, accessible travel from Nova Scotia, and accommodations during the treatment program.

While many families spend a year fundraising for the specialized therapy, Rip’s family hopes the community can help make the October opportunity possible while his development continues to gain momentum.
“Rip fights every single day,” the family says. “We refuse to give up on him.
“We want to give him every chance possible to live his life to the fullest.”
