LANTZ: The East Hants Sportsplex will see its roof get repaired/replaced.
It’s part of a project approved as part of the Municipality of East Hants’ capital budget, and was also green lighted for funding from the province.
Last week, N.S. announced the repair/replacement of the roof project at the Sportsplex was one of 18 projects to be approved for funding through the Rink Revitalization Fund.
The municipality received $100,000 to go towards the Sportsplex project.

The roof repair at the rink, which is home to East Hants Curling; East Hants Minor Hockey; East Hants Skating; Jr B Pens; Senior Pens; Jr C Pens; and more, is estimated to cost $1.5 million for the complete replacement and reseal.
A thermal imaging scan in late 2024 revealed significant roof deficiencies requiring replacement in most areas.
MEH spokeswoman Juliann Cashen said work is on going.
“It’s currently in the engineering/design phase,” she told The Laker News on Sept. 4.
“We are still working on a completion date.”

Community groups, municipalities and other not-for-profit organizations are building and improving recreation facilities with a $2.7-million investment from the province.
“Community recreation spaces are where healthy habits take root – where kids learn skills, neighbours connect and people of all ages get moving,” said Dave Ritcey, Minister of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage in a release announcing the funding support.
Besides the 32 community organizations to receive funding, an additional 18 organizations are receiving support through the Rink Revitalization Fund.
The fund helps operators of community rinks and arenas invest in core infrastructure and improvements to accessibility and energy efficiency, keeping facilities safe, welcoming and affordable.
