NINE MILE RIVER: Because of strong community support through the Nova Scotia Firefighters 50/50 fundraiser, firefighters with the Nine Mile River Fire Department are now equipped with brand-new helmets that meet the latest NFPA safety standards.

The helmets are not only safer but also more comfortable and functional, helping members be better prepared for the wide range of challenges they face.

“These helmets ensure our firefighters are safe and that we’re keeping up to date on the latest standards,” said Fire Chief Tyler Dauphinee.

“Being able to make these purchases through funds raised locally shows how much our community stands behind its fire service.”

While provincial emergency provider funding was explored, the department ultimately purchased the helmets using proceeds from its ongoing 50/50 draw.

“Having that community support means we’re able to better equip our members,” Dauphinee said.

“We can do things we wouldn’t normally be able to within our budget.”

He extended his thanks to residents who continue to take part in the 50/50 draws, emphasizing that every ticket sold goes directly toward improving firefighter safety and readiness.

“Thank you to everyone for your support — and keep buying those tickets,” Dauphinee said with a smile.
