FALL RIVER: Three senior Lockview High football players are feeling disappointed they can’t play on the new Turf Field built at the school yet.
The players and team have been told they can’t be playing or practicing on it yet as the fieldhouse, where washroom facilities will be located, is not yet complete.
However, that has left three of the players who spoke to The Laker News feeling confused as their previous field had porta potties only and that’s all they need to have at the field now until the fieldhouse part is ready.
“I’m disappointed and frustrated they told us we can’t play because the washrooms building is still undergoing construction and is unsafe for the athletes and spectators,” said Cameron Parks.
“The washrooms under construction are fenced off so it shouldn’t really be an issue. All we need are a few porta potties.”
For their part, HRM didn’t quite answer the question on why porta potties couldn’t be put there to allow the team to play games.
Brynn Budden said the project (excluding the fieldhouse) is nearing completion.
“The field can be booked once final inspections are completed and passed,” said Budden.

Sam Lovett said the idea that the team won’t be able to play home games on the field is sad.
“Half of our team are seniors. We really want to play on our own turf- we have been waiting for this for the past year,” said Lovett. “Now we have to look at that beautiful field every day at school knowing they won’t let us play games on it.”
He said he would like HRM and HRCE to know that this is important to them to be able to get playing on the field.
“I want them to know playing games on this field is so important for my senior season and for the other 20 seniors on the team,” said Lovett.
Brett Skinner concurred with Parks and Lovett.
“Not being able to play on our new field is really frustrating,” he said. “We’ve been really looking forward to playing on this new turf. When we started school this year, we were excited to see the turf done and expected to be playing on it.
“We were told that the only thing that wasn’t finished on it was the bathrooms. We’ve never had bathrooms at our old field which was just grass. We had porta potties there. I
“It’s really confusing and frustrating to hear that that’s the only thing that keeps us from being able to play on this new turf now.”
Councillor Billy Gillis and Councillor Cathy Deagle Gammon have been meeting with HRM over the concerns the football team expressed and trying to find out as well why porta potties could not be located on the field temporarily to allow the team to play there.
