HALIFAX: There’s new volunteer leadership at Rental Housing Providers Nova Scotia (RHPNS).
Amanda R. Knight was elected President of Rental Housing Providers Nova Scotia at the organization’s recent annual meeting. A longtime resident of Pictou County, Knight has owned and operated rental housing units in Antigonish County, Colchester County, Pictou County.
She has been a member of the board of directors of Rental Housing Providers Nova Scotia since 2021.
“Private sector rental housing providers are the number one source of attainable and accessible housing in Nova Scotia,” said Knight in a release.
“Unfortunately, instead of being meaningfully engaged in the development of housing solutions, our industry continues to face rising operating costs, policies that have created significant strain on housing providers, and increasingly negative rhetoric surrounding the role of rental housing providers in our communities.
“Rental Housing Providers will continue to advocate for practical, balanced solutions that support both housing stability for tenants and the long-term sustainability of housing providers across the province.”

Knight is taking over the role from of President from Jeremy Jackson, who recently retired from his executive role at Killam Apartments REIT.
“Amanda brings energy, experience and on the ground knowledge of the rental housing sector, including small owner/operators who comprise more than 90 per cent of the rental housing sector in Nova Scotia,” said Jackson.
“Having worked alongside Amanda on our board over the last several years, I know she will work exceptionally well with the rest of the board and our full-time executive director Kevin Russell on behalf of our members and the industry.”
Russell said that Jackson will be missed.
“Jeremy Jackson has been a stalwart leader of our organization for the last 18 years, providing guidance and support to me since I joined the organization as executive director,” added Russell.
“I’m grateful for all that he has done, putting in place a strong foundation for Amanda and the rest of the board to build on.”
