No serious injuries in mvc involving furnace oil truck: RCMP

NINE MILE RIVER: A mechanical malfunction is the preliminary cause of a single-vehicle collisions that saw a truck fully loaded with furnace oil leave the road on Dec. 23 in Nine Mile River.

East Hants RCMP S/Sgt. Cory Bushell said there were no serious injuries as a result of the collision on Highway1 4, where the truck came to a rest in a ditch. He said a negligible amount of oil if any spilled from the truck.

Nine Mile River fire responded to the scene and assisted with traffic control and containing any contaminants.

S/Sgt. Bushell said the Department of the Environment was advised and is actively assessing for any environmental impact.

“The company attended with an empty fuel truck and transferred all the fuel from the crashed truck to the other.,” he said.

He said once empty, tow crews easily removed the truck from the ditch.

S/Sgt. Bushell said traffic was held up intermittently along that stretch of Highway14 during the time emergency crews were on scene.
