FALL RIVER: Volunteer firefighters with Station 45 Fall River are giving a little extra cheer this holiday season to those less fortunate in the community.

The volunteer firefighters each chipped in with some donations for the Lions Christmas Express, who help make the season of joy a happy one for many who are in need.

With COVID19 this year, it’s making the normal way of doing things and collecting food for those less fortunate residents. This year, the Lions Christmas Express is only being able to provide a Christmas breakfast and dinner to recipients, expected to total 130-plus.

“Since there was no parade this year to participate in and we couldn’t help with the food box packing like previous years, we decided that we all could throw in some money as a way to help out,” said Station 45 volunteer station chief Nick Yeomans. “Everyone of our members donated what they chose to.”

He said the firefighters understand the challenges faced by all this year.

“It’s been a very difficult year for many in our community, so we felt the this was the best way to help,” he said.

The firefighters were able to collect $500-plus for the Lions Christmas Express.
