HRM: A 44-year-old Wellington man has been charged with impaired driving and issued a pair of summary offence tickets after being stopped on Aug. 9.
Police say that at approximately 3:40 p.m., an officer monitoring traffic in the 3200 block of Hwy. 2 in Fall River queried the licence plate of a vehicle and learned its registration had expired. Â
A traffic stop was conducted, and the driver provided expired registration and insurance documents.
The officer also observed signs of impairment and demanded a roadside breath sample, which resulted in a fail.Â
The driver, a 44-year-old Wellington man, was arrested for impaired driving and transported to the Lower Sackville RCMP Detachment, where he provided breath samples of 100 mg% and 90 mg%.
He was issued summary offence tickets for no insurance and expired registration and is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court at a later date.

On August 7, at approximately 7 p.m., an RCMP officer conducted a traffic stop of a Honda Civic exiting a parking lot in the 3600 block of Hammonds Plains Rd. in Upper Tantallon
During the conversation with the driver, the officer observed signs of alcohol consumption and demanded a roadside breath sample.
The driver, a 43-year-old Tantallon man who held a licence with a zero-blood alcohol condition, provided a sample of 24 mg%.
He was issued a summary offence ticket for failing to comply with licence conditions and received a 24-hour licence suspension.
At approximately 7:10 p.m. on August 7, an officer proactively patrolling a parking lot in the 5200 block of Hwy. 7 in Porters Lake observed the driver of a Hyundai Accent not wearing a seatbelt and initiated a traffic stop.
During the interaction, the officer observed signs of impairment and demanded a roadside breath sample. The driver failed to provide a suitable sample and was arrested for failing to comply with a demand.
The driver, a 31-year-old Lawrencetown man, is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court at a later date. He was also issued a summary offence ticket for failing to wear a seatbelt, and his vehicle was towed.

At approximately 8:35 p.m. on August 7, a Dodge Ram entered a checkpoint at the intersection of Hwy. 7 and Taylor Park Rd. in Spry Harbour. The driver didn’t initially stop and had to be directed to do so.
While speaking with the driver, the officer observed signs of impairment and demanded a roadside breath sample. The driver, a 53-year-old Ship Harbour woman, provided a sample of 29 mg% and was issued a 24-hr licence suspension.
Also, at approximately 8:35 p.m. on August 7, officers stopped a Ford Fusion exiting a parking lot located in the 0-100 block of Marketway Ln. in Timberlea.
After observing signs of impairment, the officer demanded a roadside breath sample, which resulted in a fail. The driver, a 51-year-old Timberlea man, was arrested for impaired driving and transported to the Tantallon RCMP Detachment.
He later provided breath samples of 190 mg% and 180 mg% and is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court at a later date.
On August 9, at approximately 3 p.m., officers responded to a report of a suspicious occurrence in the area of Hammonds Plains Rd and Westwood Blvd. in Upper Tantallon.
Officers learned that a man had asked a passerby for assistance in removing a woman from his vehicle. Police located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.
The driver, a 43-year-old man from Halifax Regional Municipality, was arrested for impaired driving and transported to the Tantallon RCMP Detachment. A drug recognition evaluation determined he was impaired by drug. He was later released and is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court at a later date.
Motorists are reminded that impaired driving, whether by alcohol or drugs, remains one of the leading criminal causes of death in Canada. Drivers must make the safe choice and never operate a vehicle while impaired.
