Name: Darrell J. Samson

Community: Resident of Fall River for 35 years

Family: Lives with wife, Faye,(teacher at Waverley Memorial Elementary) and proud father of three grown children and three grandchildren

Profession:

Former teacher and administrator, current Member of Parliament

Why are you running:

Since 2015, I’ve had the honour to serve as your Member of Parliament for Sackville—Preston—Chezzetcook. While proud of our government’s work over the past four years, there is still more work to be done – from continuing to support veterans, youth and seniors, to improving infrastructure, to protecting our environment while growing the economy.

What do you see as the top issue in your riding:

Above all: healthcare. Nova Scotia has a proud tradition of supporting our communities and ensuring everyone has an equal access to opportunity. Our government has done excellent work, such as signing a healthcare agreement which provided more funding for home care and mental health care. But I’m committed to continue delivering, such as establishing a national Pharmacare system and finding new and innovative ways to recruit and retain doctors and nurses.

Do you have a hidden talent:

True to my Cape Breton roots, I can step dance like a champ!

What is your hope for the riding:

Sackville—Preston—Chezzetcook is filled with fantastic communities and home to hidden gems. My hope is that families across our riding continue to feel supported and find meaningful ways to contribute towards our communities and economy. Specifically, I would like to reduce the burden of medication costs, retain young people, and expand the newly announced Sackville-Bedford-Burnside expressway to Porters Lake by twinning Highway 107 from Burnside to Porters Lake.
