LOWER SACKVILLE: Police officers from RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment (HRD), with support from Halifax Regional Police (HRP), arrested two people for retail thefts that occurred on August 26.

At approximately 1:10 p.m. and 1:40 p.m., HRD responded to separate reports of shoplifting at two different liquor stores in Hammonds Plains and Timberlea.

In both cases, officers were told that a specific type of alcohol was taken and were given similar descriptions of the people involved and the vehicle used to leave both stores, a red Ford Taurus.

While conducting patrols, officers located the Taurus.

Inside the vehicle, police found over 150 bottles of the same alcohol, and believe that the alcohol recovered is associated to at least ten recent thefts from liquor stores across the Halifax area.

While dealing with the vehicle, officers also safely arrested a woman who matched the description of one of the people involved in the August 26 thefts.

She remains in custody pending a first court appearance.

Other recent thefts from different liquor stores are still under investigation and officers anticipate further arrests.

At approximately 3:45 p.m., HRD responded to a report of a robbery at a retail outlet on Cole Harbour Dr. in Cole Harbour.

Officers attended and learned that a man threatened an employee then fled the area on foot with clothing items from the store.

Shortly after, HRP officers located a man on Donegal Dr. matching the description of the person who had fled the store and was clearly in possession of items reportedly taken in the robbery.

He was safely arrested and had a first court appearance on August 27 at Dartmouth Provincial Court.

RCMP HRD continue to ask that employees in stores and other retail settings do not confront suspected shoplifters, to prevent potential violence or other safety concerns.

Contact local police to report thefts, or call 911 if violence, weapons, or other immediate safety concerns are observed.
