Dr. Strang working to provide clarity related to darts during COVID19

FALL RIVER: The Chief medical officer of health is looking into getting clarity for people who play darts, pool, want to sing karaoke, and more, on whether those activities are allowed to continue during the COVID19 pandemic.

In an email to Legions and a post on social media, a message was sent out reportedly by the Executive Director of Alcohol and Gaming. It said, in part:

“Dart (or pool) leagues in liquor licensed establishments are considered to be comparable to dart tournaments which are not permitted in the Health Protection Order,” the message said. “Individuals playing either darts or pool are limited to those individuals within the bubbled group (of 10 or less) that have entered the establishment. It is not permitted for individuals from multiple bubbles to play either darts or pool against each other.”

That had created some concern among dart players and members of volunteer boards that run community halls that darts was being shut down. This result would impact some and force them to close their facilities as the dart leagues is what helps keep them open during this time of COVID19.

Dr. Robert Strang told The Laker News he is working on getting answers to organizations and groups, such as Legions and community halls, like the LWF Hall, across the province, who host dart leagues and tournaments.

He said the province has received numerous requests from organizations stretching from darts; karaoke; pool; video games, etc.

“I’m working right now with my colleagues in Alcohol and Gaming, Food safety inspectors, public health inspectors, my team, to try and provide some clarity around what type of activities can happen and the rules that they have to follow safely within the licensed establishments,” said Dr. Strang.

He hoped to have those answers soon.

“There will be clarity coming really soon on that,” he said.
