LOWER SACKVILLE: A 32-year-old Sackville man has been charged with stunting after Halifax Regional Police (HRP) nabbed him going in excess of 50 kilometres per hour over the posted speed limit today, Feb. 11, in Halifax.

In a release, HRP said at approximately 7 a.m. a member of the Traffic Unit observed a car travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 102 inbound to Halifax near the Hammonds Plains Road. The officer captured the vehicle’s speed at 158 km/h in a 100 km/h zone.

Police said the 32-year-old Sackville man was ticketed for stunting under the Motor Vehicle Act, a charge that is automatically laid when a vehicle is travelling more than 50 km/h over the speed limit.

In addition, the man was suspended from driving for seven days and the vehicle he was driving was seized and will be impounded for seven days.

The fine in Nova Scotia for stunting is $2,422.50 and six points are assigned to the driver’s record.

In a continued effort to address traffic safety issues and educate citizens on the rules of the road, our officers focus on speed enforcement.

“We all have a role to play in keeping our roads safe,” HRP said in the release. “If you see someone driving dangerously, report it to police by calling 911.”
