BEAVER BANK: Nova Scotia Environment, in a post on their Facebook page, said they have received reports of a blue-green algae bloom on Tucker Lake in Beaver Bank.
“Our staff have visited the site and visually inspected, and believe it is blue-green algae,” said the post.
Blue-green algae can make people and pets sick. Don’t drink the water, and we’re recommending people not swim in the water either.
There’s more information available about blue-green algae here: https://novascotia.ca/…/environmental-…/blue-green-algae.asp .
Remember, once a bloom has appeared in a lake it’s more likely to reappear that season, so please keep an eye out before you swim.
If you want an update on a lake that’s already had a reported blue-green algae bloom, please call your nearest local Environment office: https://novascotia.ca/nse/dept/regional-office-locations.asp.
