ENFIELD: The community stepped up to help out the St. Bernard’s Knights of Columbus on the weekend of Nov. 13.
The organization had put the plea out to the Enfield/Elmsdale and area community about the food drive in support of Caring and Sharing Angel Tree Food Bank they would be holding.
Well, while Mother Nature tried to rain on their goodwill deed, it was the community that came through.
Macaroni, Spaghetti, Cereal and canned Fruit/Veggies/pasta were the main items being sought for this food drive.
In the end of their morning food drive which was held at the parking lot at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church on Hwy 2 in Enfield, the Knights collected 1,815 pounds of food and $1,058 was donated to Caring & Sharing Angel Tree Food Bank.
Besides the food drive, there was also a Chilli lunch takeout fundraiser held, put on by the St. Bernard’s CWL. That had many pre-orders purchased. They were picked up between noon and 1 p.m. by those who had placed the orders prior to this day.
The chilli included a roll and a cookie.
The ladies were hard at work when the Laker News stopped by. They paused from their hard work efforts to pose for a photo for us.
Meanwhile, there was also a food drive happen at Nine Mile River United Church.
How much food was collected at that event was unknown.
