WINDSOR JUNCTION: The Lions Christmas Express got a boost this year in their quest to help upwards of 100 less fortunate families in the Fall River area.
On Dec. 10, volunteers with the Lions Christmas Express gathered together to head out to pickup the food collected at local area schools.
Among the pickup spots on this day included Holland Road School in Fletchers Lake; Waverley Memorial School; and Ash Lee Jefferson School.

The pickups filled the trailer hauled by the volunteers, and even the back of one pickup truck driven by Barry Dalrymple.
After the pickups were completed at Waverley and Holland Road school, the volunteers unloaded what they had at the Windsor Junction Community Centre, the main point for where food will be packed and picked up at.
They then went and got the food from Ash Lee, and then returned and unloaded there.
Between the three schools, they filled the big room at the WJCC with all the food to be sorted and then packed.
With COVID-19 protocols in place and new restrictions limiting gathering numbers, the volunteers sorted it over the Dec. 11-12 weekend and then a group[ of 14 packed the food for close to 100 families.
The food boxes, along with Christmas turkey and veggies, will be delivered and picked up by those who are receiving them this Sunday.
Lockview High provided their donation on Thursday afternoon that they collected in conjunction with a fundraiser they were doing for Feed N.S. They collected some much needed Stovetop and canned goods. The Laker News’ Pat Healey picked it up after an assignment.
The volunteers would like to thank the community for their donations this holiday season and wish everyone a Happy Holidays and all the best in 2022.
