NINE MILE RIVER: Calling the police for assistance after going off the road in Nine Mile River turned out to be bad idea for a Dartmouth man last week.
East Hants RCMP S/Sgt. Cory Bushell said the detachment received a call Dec. 30 from a driver requesting assistance as his vehicle had gone off the road on Highway 14 in Nine Mile River.
“Upon arrival, the driver stated he had hit some black ice which made him lose control,” said S/Sgt. Bushell. “The officer noted the roads were clear and investigated further.”

That’s what led the officer to suspect there was more to the incident.
“It quickly became evident the driver was impaired by alcohol and as such, the officer arrested him,” said S/Sgt. Bushell. “He was transported to the detachment so he could provide samples of his breath.”
He said the 37-year-old Dartmouth man was later released and will face the courts at a later date for charges of impaired driving.
