Break-and-enter suspect caught red-handed in Elmsdale

ELMSDALE: A 41-year-old Alton man has been charged with several break-and-enter-related offences after being caught red-handed in Elmsdale on Nov. 12.

East Hants RCMP S/Sgt. Cory Bushell said police were called to a break-and-enter in progress at a business in the Elmsdale Business Park in the early morning hours.

“East Hants RCMP officers, along with assistance from the Sipekne’katik RCMP members, immediately attended and secured the area while a search for the suspect was undertaken,” said S/Sgt. Bushell.

The culprit, a 41-year-old Alton area man, was located inside a secure compound where he was attempting to hide from police.

“After being placed under arrest, the suspect struggled to avoid capture but was taken into custody without incident,” said S/Sgt. Bushell.

Officers found the suspect to be in possession of an array of break in tools, other physical items to aid in committing theft and several knives. The suspect was held in custody overnight and released on conditions the following morning.

S/Sgt. Bushell said the man is facing charges of Break and Enter, Possession of Break and Enter Tools, Resisting Arrest, and Possession of a Concealed Weapon. He will face the courts at a later date.
