ELMSDALE: The East Hants RCMP and volunteers from the community collected more than three vans full of food during the Stuff A Cruiser food drive on Nov. 27 in Elmsdale.
Volunteers from the Caring & Sharing Angel Tree food bank, MP Kody Blois, MLA John A. MacDonald and East Hants RCMP Const. Terry Fogarty and S/Sgt. Cory Bushell were on hand filling the food that customers to the Sobeys Elmsdale purchased and donated.
There was also $325 in cash and $40 in gift cards donated to the food drive, which was held for a three-hour span.
S/Sgt. Bushell said East Hants RCMP were pleased to be part of the community fundraiser.
“It was very heartwarming to witness the generosity and support received from the people of East Hants,” he said. “Organizations like the Caring and Sharing Angel Tree Food Bank rely on the support of the community to feed those less fortunate. “
He said the call was put out, and East Hants residents responded in the way they’re known too.
“Folks answered the call with kindness and compassion for their fellow residents,” said S/Sgt. Bushell. “That’s the East Hants we all know and love.”
Margaret Logan-Graham, a Food Bank volunteer who organized the food drive, said there’s still time for people to make monetary charitable donations. They can do that online by e-transfer to caringandsharinghants@gmail.com.
“Working with the local detachment members was a delight,” said Graham. “Their professionalism and community spirit showed how much they believe in the work Caring and Sharing does for the community. Their support showed that collecting food is a true community effort.”
The event went over well thanks to those in the community.
“Once again the shoppers of Sobeys Elmsdale made the day a huge success,” she said.

The Angel Tree Food Bank is open at the Enfield Legion basement from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday and Thursdays.
