FALL RIVER: The family whose Arthur Joseph Drive home burned to the ground on Tuesday morning, Sept. 25, is “blown away” at the response from the community in the days since the fire.

Roberta Degaust said the family is safe and staying with her parents in Dartmouth.

“We’re so incredibly blown away with the outpouring of support we are receiving,” DeGaust said. “I don’t think I have ever cried as much as I have in the past few days”

While the family and their dog managed to escape the early mporning fire which saw 30 firefighters respond, their pet cat Jake remains missing. It has been confirmed that Jake did make it out of the house before the fire destroyed it.

Firefighters from stations from Bedford, Sackville, Beaver Bank, Grand Lake; Wellington; Waverley; and Fall River responded, along with EHS; RCMP; and N.S. Power.

The family plans to continue to call Fall River home.

“We will be rebuilding our home,” said DeGaust. “Honestly, just knowing the support is there has made such a huge impact during this difficult time. The only thing we need is our Jake back with us.”

She wanted everyone to know how thankful they are for everything.

“The love and concern they have shown means the world to us,” she said. “We can’t thank you enough.”
