OTTAWA: Today, April 22, the RCMP Foundation announced that a new Fallen Officer Fund has been established to help the family of Cst. Heidi Stevenson, killed in the line of duty April 19, 2020.
“It is with tremendous sadness that we learned of the loss of Cst. Heidi Stevenson, a 23-year veteran of the Force who was killed in the line of duty, responding to an active shooter incident.” said Kevin Lawton, Executive Director of The RCMP Foundation.
Lawton continued, “April 19 marks a devastating day for Nova Scotia and all of Canada. This day will remain etched in the minds of many for years to come. The events that took place are incomprehensible and many families are experiencing the loss of a loved one including our own RCMP family.
Our thoughts go out to Heidi’s family and to all of the families impacted by this tragedy.”
Two children have lost their mother, and a husband lost his wife. Parents lost their daughter and countless others lost an incredible friend and colleague.
Lawton continued, “Heidi’s family is a part of our RCMP family and we will embrace and support them in the days, weeks and months ahead.”
The RCMP Foundation will act on behalf of Heidi’s family and the RCMP to receive donations from the public, groups or organizations wishing to support the family through this tragedy.
Anyone wishing to donate can do so at www.rcmp-f.ca.
Charitable donation receipts are available. The RCMP Foundation, founded in 1994, is a nationally registered charity and is the namesake charity of the RCMP.
