FALL RIVER: Fall River’s Richard Payne, a realtor by day, recently participated in the Ironman 70.3 Maine competition.
Here he and wife Jane pose with the medal he got for finishing such a gruelling event, held in Old Orchard Beach, Maine.
Payne finished the triathlon in a time of 5:50:42, good for 119th out of 221 competitors in the male 45-49-years-old age group. That placed him 631n out of 1,171 men and overall he came home in a respectable 836 out of 1,924 competitors.
It took lots of training to be able to do it, and there was lots of support from the community rooting him on. His daughters were also there as part of his support crew.
