FALL RIVER: No one was home when fire was spotted coming from a house along Lockview Road in Fall River at the supper-time rush hour on July 17.

At about 5:50 p.m., a 911 call came in of smoke coming from a house along Fletcher’s Lake on Lockview Road. Station 45 Fall River was first to arrive, responding from another call, followed by Station 42 (Wellington).

Also responding mutual aid were Station 41 Waverley; Station 43 Grand Lake; and Station 10 (Lower Sackville). Alpha 9 stood by for coverage at Station 45. HRM Fire Division commander and District Captain were also at the fire.

Lloyd Currie, Halifax Fire divisional commander, said upon arrival crews encountered heavy fire at the rear of the home.

“They knocked the bulk of the fire down from the outside and transitioned to the interior,” said Currie. “There is extensive damage to the home.”

The fire left those motorists in need of another route to get to their destinations. A witness at the scene said the family of an earlier fire in the area stopped to see if there was anything they could do to help.

The homeowner was not home at the time of the fire, but was notified at work of the fire at her home. She arrived home shortly after.

EHS and Halifax District RCMP also responded to the call. One police vehicle had to be left at the scene as it was surrounded by fire hose. Police left at about 7:30 p.m. as fire crews continued overhaul, ensuring any hot spots were doused.

Currie said fire investigators continue to investigate what caused the fire.

Crews were being released from the scene at about 9:50 p.m. The home was left with security. Fire investigators are to return to the scene later today, July 18.

At about 12 a.m. the fire reignited, sending crews that were on scene previously plus additional firefighters from other stations, including Quint 9 (ladder truck).

Firefighters doused it, and were released from the scene at about 1:45 a.m.

Investigators returned in the morning and wrapped up at the scene by noon on July 18.
