WINDSOR JUNCTION: A mid-morning fire on Oct. 1 that left a Windsor Junction family homeless has been deemed as set by fire investigators.

Firefighters from Station 41 (Waverley), Station 45 (Fall River); Tac 45 (Fall River), District 4, Station 8 (Bedford), Station 10 (Sackville), Quint 9 (Metropolitan, Sackville), EHS, and Halifax District RCMP were paged out to 961 Cobequid Road at 10:45 a.m.

Dispatch informed firefighters there were multiple calls made to them informing them there were flames visible, with the callers reporting smoke and flames are at the rear home.

As firefighters arrived, they were met with heavy smoke from the eaves of the house.

In their fire investigation summary, investigators said they determined the area of origin as both a porch and a bedroom. They also found the ignition source as incendiary.

“The cause of this fire is classified as incendiary,” the investigators report posted on HRM’s website said.

Halifax District RCMP spokesman Cpl. Dal Hutchinson said on the morning of Oct. 10—before the fire investigation summary was released online—the matter remains under investigation. An update is expected Oct. 15/16.
