BEDFORD: Tim Outhit, the councillor for District 16 which covers the Bedford region has been elected as the new Deputy Mayor for HRM Regional Council on Nov. 24 by his his fellow councillors to serve for the next year as Deputy Mayor.
The new Deputy Mayor takes over from Deputy Mayor Lisa Blackburn who held the position for the past 12 months.
“I am humbled by the trust my Council colleagues have placed in me. After serving on Council for the past 12 years, it is a great honour to become Deputy Mayor for the upcoming year,” Deputy Mayor Outhit said.
“This year, more than any other other, the municipality will continue to be challenged by the impacts of COVID-19. I’ll continue to engage with more residents across the municipality to hear how they feel about the issues facing us as a community,” Outhit said.
Deputy Mayor Outhit has been a member of Regional Council since 2008. He was re-elected in the 2020 general election.
A lifelong resident of the municipality, Outhit is a strong supporter of the objectives of groups, such as the Halifax Partnership, Halifax Chamber of Commerce, FUSION Halifax, and the Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia, that are striving to grow our economy and combat our demographic challenges.
Outhit is former President & CEO of Novaknowledge. He was Director of Business Development at AOL; World Wide Channels Manager for Electronics Workbench Software, and Vice President of QUICKLAW. He is fortunate to have conducted business in 10 provinces, 33 US States, and in over a dozen countries.
He serves on many municipal committees, boards, and commissions, and continues to look for opportunities to make positive contributions as an elected official.
Outhit lives in Bedford with his wife Sandra Toze. They have two daughters, with one attending McMaster University and one attending Dalhousie University.
