FALL RIVER: A landmark that had stood tall in the Fall River community for decades has been torn down.

A construction crew that was onsite tore down the old Racetrac gas station on Hwy 2 in Fall River beginning on June 3. They have continued work through this past week, including tearing down the home up on the hill that sold along with the Burgess Service Centre property.

The RaceTrac gas station/Burgess Service Centre was a landmark in the community. It makes for a different sight line as you drive by the area nowadays with a piece of the communities history nothing more than rubble.

On Social Media people reminisced about the loss of the station.

“That station has been there pretty much my whole life. Kind of sad to see it go,” said Dan McNaughton.

Eric McIntyre of Fall River said he will miss his chats with Gerald Burgess the most.

“Going to miss chatting with Gerald & the convenience of dropping off my vehicle, especially at the last minute,” he said. “He’d always squeeze you in.”

Another Tweeter thought they knew what may be going in its place.

“So the Sobeys, Tim’s and a&w model that’s in Burnside,” said Twitter user @j_bshay.

There have been countless rumours and speculation like the one above posted on various Facebook community groups and Twitter as to what will be constructed at the site.

However, none of the rumours have been confirmed.

The Laker News has attempted to contact the developer of the site without any response.

We hope to have a further story and update when we are provided information.
