FALL RIVER: Track and field athlete Abbi Gaudry has earned a well deserved accolade from Athletics Nova Scotia.
Gaudry, a Fall River product and Lockview High School student, was named the 2018 Under-16 Female Athlete of the Year, by the governing body for track and field in the province. She trains under coach Doug Mitchell with Chebucto Athletics in a wide range of events.
She brought home three Silver medals as a first year NSSAF intermediate, in the High Jump, Long Jump, and 80 metres hurdles. She competed in the Long Jump, 80m hurdles, and 200m hurdles at the National Legion Track Championships.
At the Legion championships, she qualified for finals in both the Long Jump and 200m Hurdles. Her best Long jump of the year set a Nova Scotia record of 5.42m ranking her sixth in the country in this event for 2018. This jump puts her a full 19cm further than any other U16 Nova Scotian in the last decade.
Gaudry is a multi sport athlete, with one of her other passions being basketball. She may well follow the Chebucto tradition of excellence in Heptathlon.
