LOWER SACKVILLE: When two frightened parents rushed into the Lower Sackville Detachment of Halifax District RCMP with a choking child, S/Sgt. Erica Pynn sprang into action.
On September 7 at approximately 12:30 p.m., a family was en route to the hospital with their four-year-old who had swallowed a quarter. The coin was lodged in his throat, blocking his airway.
Worried that they wouldn’t make it to hospital in time, the family drove to the Lower Sackville detachment and called for help.
S/Sgt. Pynn heard the call, ran outside and performed abdominal thrusts on the child. By doing this, she dislodged the quarter enough for the child to breathe.
The child was then taken to hospital for medical treatment and is expected to fully recover.
RCMP officers are always ready to respond to the unexpected and protect Nova Scotians.
