FALL RIVER: While there is no parade or school food drives for the Lions Christmas Express to collect food items for those less fortunate, the need remains—maybe even more so with COVID19.

With that in mind, the Lions Christmas Express is working on ways they can still help those recipients who are in need enjoy a good Christmas breakfast and supper, despite the hurdles involved in raising money to do that.

On Nov. 5, the Lions Christmas Express committee met at the LWF Hall during Lions Wing Night to get started on the planning for this year, a year in which they are estimating to serve upwards of 120-plus clients, up from the 80-100 they have in past years. That is because of the impact of COVID19 on so many families.

This year, the Christmas Express will focus solely on making the recipients have a great breakfast and Christmas dinner through having fresh veggies, eggs, and a turkey for Christmas dinner.

But all this requires money. That’s where the support from the community will come in.

“We’re going to be counting on the residents of the Fall River, Windsor Junctions, Grand Lake and area communities to donate to help us so we can help those less fortunate,” said Stephanie Dube, organizer with the non-profit organization. “We hope the community can continue to support us and give some of that Christmas Spirit to those who are going through a tough time.”

The community is asked to stay tuned for fundraising events and ways they can financially support the group this holiday season.

If they want to they can donate now through CanadaHelps.org at: https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/fallriverexpress/.
