ENFIELD: East Hants RCMP is concerned with recent online threats made on Social Media towards two Enfield men charged with child pornography-related offences.

In the weekly From the Cruiser column, S/Sgt. Cory Bushell took time to address the “veiled” online comments made towards the two men, both who live in Enfield. He said police will not tolerate any person who tries to retaliate and act on the online comments.

“As disturbing, immoral and unlawful these crimes are, I am concerned by some recent veiled online posts in response to media stories following the investigation,” said S/Sgt. Bushell. “We understand the fear, frustration and anger in the community over these allegations.

“However, let me be clear, vigilante actions, including acts of aiding or abetting will not be tolerated.”

Instead, he encourages everyone to educate about the downside of the internet.

“Take this time to direct your energy into educating your vulnerable loved ones on the dangers of the internet, about healthy behaviours, healthy interpersonal boundaries, healthy relationships, and where a young person can turn if they ever need help,” he said.

S/Sgt. Bushell said the investigation by East Hants RCMP, with assistance from the provincial Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) was a tremendous effort.

“It was the direct result of officer intuition, tenacious effort and skillful application of investigative techniques,” he said. “I’m very proud of the work our East Hants RCMP and provincial ICE officers have completed in this case.”
