FALL RIVER: The federal Liberal MP for Sackville-Preston-Chezzetcook is among the names being bountied about to put their name forward in an upcoming N.S. Liberal Leadership race to replace Premier Stephen McNeil.
In a message to The Laker News on Friday night, Aug. 7 before he spoke to other media next week, Samson told the community news website that he hasn’t ruled out anything.
“I’m giving it some thought,” Samson said from his Fall River Village home.
Other names being speculated include: Zach Chirchill; Karen Casey; MP’s Darren Fisher; and Sean Fraser, among others. Former MP for Kings-Hants Scott Brison has also had his name mentioned in chatter.
McNeil announced he was stepping down on Aug. 6. In a statement he said he was stepping down and leaving public office after 17 years, seven as Premier.
“I want to thank Nova Scotians for giving me the opportunity to be your premier,” said McNeil in the statement. “We have accomplished so much together. I may not have always gotten it right. But here’s what I know for sure: we are better together and being kind matters.”
