GRAND LAKE: Two men reported overdue after going out to test a boat on Grand Lake on the evening of May 14 were found safe, shortly before 3 a.m. on May 15.

Nova Scotia RCMP spokeswoman Cpl. Jen Clarke said neither man took a cell phone with them when they went out.

“When they didn’t return, a family member reported them overdue,” said Cpl. Clarke.

Firefighters from Station 42 (Wellington); Station 43 (Grand Lake); and Halifax Ground Search and Rescue were paged out to assist in the search. There were multiple RCMP involved as well.

Cpl. Clarke said GSAR was activated just before midnight.

“The boat was located shortly before 3 a.m. by GSAR,” she said. “It had engine trouble and had been drifting in the lake for seven hours. GSAR towed it back to shore.”

Cpl. Clarke said both men were in good health.
