FALL RIVER: Get excited Fall River, Christmas will kickoff with a first-ever community celebration that combines the Lions Christmas Parade and the FRABA Tree Lighting.

Newly dubbed Christmas on the Canal, the fun will see the Lions Christmas Parade on Nov. 25 begin at 5 p.m. from the LWF Hall on Fall River Road and wind its way to the Fall River Shopping Plaza (parking lot near East Coast Credit Union). Food is collected along the parade route for the Lions Christmas Express food drive.

At 6:30 p.m., the Fall River and Area Business Association-sponsored Tree Lighting will kick-off with sounds of the season from the kids choir at Joyful Sounds in Fall River. The tree will be lit at 7 p.m. There will be hot chocolate served up, as well as a chance to win a Nintendo Switch, donated by FRABA.

Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will also stay after they participate in the parade to enjoy the fun at the tree lighting.

Paula Beck-MacKenzie is the organizer for the Lions Christmas Parade. She spoke about the change in this year’s celebration.

“We thought what a better way for the community to get into the spirit of Christmas than holding both the parade and tree lighting all in one day,” said Beck-MacKenzie. “We are also very excited to be holding our first-ever Parade of Lights.”

To enter a float, businesses and community groups interested can do so by contacting Paula by email at paulabeck2015@icloud.com or 902-448-3731.

FRABA is also looking forward to combining both events into one gigantic community celebration

“It made sense for us to combine our efforts to make the day even more special and bring out the Christmas spirit to the community,” said Louise MacDonald from FRABA.

The rain/storm date for the parade and tree lighting is Dec. 9, beginning at the same time.
