INDIAN BROOK: Bystanders and members of the Indian Brook RCMP detachment are being credited by fire officials for their quick actions during an apartment fire in the community on March 13.
Indian Brook Fire Deputy Chief Gaetan Goguen said the actions by the RCMP members and neighbours helped to minimize the spread of the fire, that saw 30 firefighters from six departments respond.
“I would like to thank the Indian Brook RCMP detachment and some bystanders for their quick action to limit the fire’s spread in the structure,” said Goguen.
Indian Brook, along with mutual aid units from Stewiacke; Shubenacadie; Shubenacadie; Milford; Lantz; and Enfield attended the scene. Fire departments in Nine Mile River; Rawdon fire; and Station 40 Dutch Settlement were paged as well but stood down before they arrived on scene.
Goguen said Indian Brook fire arrived to find smoke on the first floor of the two-storey building, which houses a convenience store on the first floor and an apartment.
“Everybody was out of the apartment when we arrived,” said Goguen. “There was smoke on the first floor and fire on the exterior of the building.”
He said there was no one injured and no damage on the second floor. However, the first floor had some smoke and fire damage.
Goguen said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
