FALL RIVER: A former golfer from Fall River has won the first provincial championship held in any sport due to COVID19.
Ben Chasse, who golfs out of Oakfield Golf & Country Club, captured the 2020 MCT Men’s Amateur Championship at Ken-Wo Golf Club. Many competitors came close to taking the title, but in the end, only one can claim the top prize.
The Bishop’s University golfer captured his first ever amateur title after firing a low round of two-under-par (68), carding three birdies, and only one bogey. Chasse had a three day total of 5-under, 205.
Round two leader, David Williamson placed second overall with a three day total of 3-under par, 207.
Rounding out the top three was Ashburn’s Jake Smith, who’s father Gordie Smith won this event 35 years ago to the day. Smith, the youngest competitor in the field, fired 68-69-71—208, for the tournament.
