Police arrest impaired driver in West Gore, seize firearm

WEST GORE: A 67-year-old man from West Gore was arrested for impaired driving after East Hants RCMP received reports of an erratic driver near Valley Road in West Gore on Nov. 19.

East Hants RCMP S/Sgt. Cory Bushell said officers were alerted to a possible impaired driver on the Valley Rd in West Gore.

“The complainant described the suspect vehicle as driving all over the road and even striking mailboxes,” he said.

“East Hants members quickly located the vehicle at a residence in proximity to the area where the alleged impaired driving took place. “

S/Sgt. Bushell said the man, who resides at the residence, was quickly located and further investigation revealed he was the suspect driver. The man exhibited signs of intoxication and was placed under arrest by members.

“While on scene, members observed a firearm which was stored insecurely and subsequently seized,” said S/Sgt. Bushell.

He said the driver was taken back to the detachment where he failed to provide suitable samples of his breath for examination.

The man was charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, careless use of a firearm, impaired driving, and failure to provide a sample of his breath.

S/Sgt. Bushell said the man will face the courts at a later date.
