WAVERLEY: The Waverley Legion has received some big help from a federal grants and contribution program.

Recently, Sackville-Preston-Chezzetcook MP Darrell Samson was on hand to present the Legion and its members with a cheque for $25,000 for kitchen renovations at the facility, located on Rocky Lake Drive in Waverley.

The funding comes from the New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP), a federal grants and contributions program. It provides funding for projects that make a difference in the lives of seniors and in their communities.

“The kitchen serves as a place for seniors to volunteer, and at the same time remain engaged in their community by providing some great meals,” said Samson, who added it just worked out to be wing night when he was able to stop by on April 8.

He said the federal government is investing more than $1150,000 to help organizations that support seniors in Sackville-Preston-Chezzetcook, through the New Horizons for Seniors Program.

Cheryl Sinnott, with the Legion, said the grant was attained with MP Samson’s assistance.

“We also had help from our great senior volunteers who work tirelessly to keep our Legion running and supporting our local Veterans,” said Sinnott. “We want to thank Darrell and his staff in Fall River for helping us with this grant process.”
