DAVIES, Frank “Bud” James -56, Lantz, Nova Scotia, passed away suddenly on April 13th, 2018, while vacationing with his loving wife and dear friends in Positano, Italy. Bud is survived by the love of his life, Andrea; and his three children, Erin (Aaron Baker), Caitlyn, and Jimmy; sister, Cathie (Albert Kramer), Langley BC; sister-in-law, Cheryl Gorman, Lower Sackville; and brother-in-law, Greg Gorman (Heather), Wellington; nieces and nephews, James, Adam, Sarah, Ryan, Jack, Cole; and his exchange daughter, Cristy Peniche. He and Andrea were recently reunited with their son, Bryce Payne, who they together placed for adoption 34 years ago. Bud was predeceased by his father, James; and mother, Lillian (Brown). Born in Halifax, Bud was raised in Lower Sackville where many of his close friends and family remain. He and his wife, Andrea, moved to Lantz where they have called home for the past 30 years. Together they have raised three beautiful children, as well as started their business, Davies Plumbing and Heating. A strong supporter of minor hockey, Bud spent many hours at the rink as a parent, player, and coach. He was instrumental in restarting the Hants Easts Rural High hockey team, which brought him great joy; Bud strived to be a positive influence in the lives of each of the kids he coached. He was a founding member of the East Hants Sports Hall of Fame and played gentleman’s softball and hockey for many years. He always said the best part of belonging to these teams was celebrating after the game, when they would relax, carry on, and have a beer. Bud loved music, especially his favorite band, April Wine – he was thrilled to have Myles Goodwin as a Facebook friend. Bud was a Montreal Canadians fan, having attended a few games in Montréal over the years with friends and his son, Jimmy. He enjoyed golf, appreciated a quality vehicle, and always looked forward to warm weather for cruising around in his ‘72 Toyota Land Cruiser. Bud was a storyteller like no other and always loved to make people laugh. A friend to many, he was often found outdoors by the pool with his family and friends, music playing, and a cold one in hand. He looked forward to fishing season, during which he would spend his weekends at Scraggy with his fishing buddies. Bud was always thinking of others, his generous spirit leading him to do whatever he could to help. Above all, Bud loved his family; he was a wonderful father, husband, and brother. The Davies home was always full of life, love, and laughter. Bud’s family will carry him in their hearts forever. Andrea and her family would like to give a special thanks to her and Bud’s dear friends and traveling companions, Kendall and Cindy Nowe, Dean Basque, and Kara Ward, for their kindness and comfort following Bud’s untimely passing. Their selfless compassion was instrumental in bringing Bud home. The Davies family is forever grateful. Bud’s larger-than-life personality will be greatly missed. He leaves a void in the lives of everyone who knew him, and the loss to his family and friends cannot be measured. Bud was truly one of a kind. A celebration of Bud’s life will be held at the East Hants Sportsplex at 1 p.m., Tuesday April 24th with a reception to follow. A private service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to East Hants Sports Hall of Fame and/or East Hants Sportsplex.
