LOWER SACKVILLE: A quick thinking motorist is being praised by RCMP for getting a driver who was four-times the legal limit off the road.
Cpl. Dal Hutchinson, spokesman with Halifax District RCMP, said the Lake Echo man was arrested on April 18 after they received a 911 call from a concerned motorist. The motorist was following a vehicle that was swerving all over Highway 102 and hitting the shoulder.
Police located the vehicle at Exit 7, Enfield, on Highway 102, said Cpl. Hutchinson, and stopped him.
As a result, he is facing impaired operation of a motor vehicle; over the legal limit; and driving while prohibited. The man is 33-years-old.
“The driver’s blood alcohol readings were almost four times over the legal limit,” said Cpl. Hutchinson.
He was later released and will appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court at a later date.
“We applaud the concerned motorist for having called 911 after suspecting the driver was impaired,” said Cpl. Hutchinson.
“With the weather conditions yesterday, coupled with the impairment, it could have been a different outcome.”
