Fall River man faces sex assault charges

DARTMOUTH: A 28-year-old Fall River man faces sexual assault charges following a an alleged Dec. 7 incident in Dartmouth.

In a Dec. 8 press release, Halifax Regional Police (HRP) say at approximately 5:15 a.m. on Dec. 7 they received a 911 call from a woman in her 20s saying she was being sexually assaulted by a man. Officers responded to the scene where the man was arrested.

“Through the course of the investigation, it was determined that the woman met the man shortly prior to the incident,” said HRP in their release. “After meeting, they went to a local coffee shop and then attended a nearby residence, where the sexual assault took place.”

Pablo Moises Alas, 28, of Fall River faces charges of aggravated sexual assault; Uttering threats to cause death or grievous bodily harm; and overcoming resistance (choking). Alas appeared in Dartmouth Provincial Court on Dec. 8 to answer to the charges.

No further information will be released, police say, as a publication ban is in effect to protect the identity of the victim.
