FALL RIVER: More than 2,000 items were collected by Fall River-area students for those their own age throughout HRM.

This year, students at Georges P. Vanier Junior High in Fall River supported Phoenix Shelter for Youth and Feed Nova Scotia with their in-school food drive.

The items on the left in the below photo went to Feed N.S., while those on the right were given to Phoenix Shelter.

Vice principal Tammy Murray said there was a reason behind the students decision.

“Our students wanted to support the greater HRM and other youth like them throughout the municipality,” Murray said.

The collection was held as part of the school’s spirit week.

“”The students looked at items which were in need at the shelter and each grade collected a portion of the list,” she said.

In the end, the students brought in 2,027 items for the Shelter and Feed Nova Scotia.

It was picked up by those organizations before school ended for the holiday break, and will be put to good use helping those less fortunate.
