FALL RIVER: Firefighters and fire officials with Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency (HRFE) wishes to remind you to ‘fall back’ tomorrow night before you go to bed.
When you turn back your clocks by an hour, you should also change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. Also remember to check the expiry on the back of the alarms. The National Fire Protection Association recommends smoke alarms be replaced every 10 years.
In the Fall River/Beaver Bank area, residents are served by volunteer firefighters from Station 48 Beaver Bank; Station 41 Waverley; Station 45 Fall River (career and volunteers); Station 42 Wellington-Fletchers Lake; and Station 43 Grand Lake-Oakfield).
Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms should be tested once a month.
HRFE investigators frequently discover smoke alarms didn’t sound when they followed up on serious fires. Usually it’s either because the alarm was disconnected, batteries were dead, or were taken out to be used for something else and not replaced.
