ELMSDALE: With a small group of about eight or 10 members from the Elmsdale Beautification Society nearby, the Elmsdale Christmas Tree was lit up on Sunday night, Nov. 28.
With COVID19 still around and the space too small for the volunteer group to feel safe in holding a tree lighting event, it was brought to life at the Square in Elmsdale by a plug on of lights with not much fanfare.
Previous tree lighting events would see the Square fill up with residents out to get in the Christmas spirit along with fireworks. But the volunteer group felt they couldn’t in good conscious hold a regular tree lighting event due to COVID-19.

Members of the society did a countdown before one of the volunteers plugged it in and applause came as the tree lit up.
The society hopes to return to its regular, more crowd-friendly tree lighting event in 2022.
