FALL RIVER: A business owned and operated by a Fall River family is a finalist for two Halifax Chamber of Commerce 2020 Business Awards.
Junk Works Halifax is a finalist for Innovative Business of the Year and Business Leader of the Year categories.
The “Innovative Business of the Year” is dedicated to a Halifax business that has introduced an innovative product or service within the past year. Junk Works Halifax is recognized as a finalist in this category for the introduction of its mini dumpster, a smaller version of its regular dumpsters, making its services more accessible to the community.
Sherry Willison, co-owner of Junk Works Halifax, is also one of five finalists in the “Business Leader of the Year” category.
“This is a prestigious honor for us and it is especially humbling we are the only business that is a finalist in two categories,” said Willison. “The introduction of the mini dumpsters was a big step for us, but our hope with this was to expand our reach and encourage more individuals to recycle.
“We are happy to see those efforts are being acknowledged and embraced by our community.”
Willison said the company owes both of their nominations to every one of their team members and each of their customers.
“Without them, achieving all that we have in just a little over three years wouldn’t have been possible,” she said. “We’re looking forward to the gala in January and continuing to establish ourselves as the greenest junk removal business in the Halifax area.”
In its 20thyear, the Halifax Business Awards is an opportunity to showcase Halifax’s best and brightest business leaders and entrepreneurs. It is hosted by the Halifax Chamber of Commerce and finalists are picked by a panel spearheaded by Gina Gale, Senior Vice President of BDC.
There are six award categories including “Business of the Year,” “Small Business of the Year,” “New Business of the Year,” “Export Business of the Year,” “Innovative Business of the Year” and “Business Leader of the Year.”
Winners will be announced at a gala event on Thursday, January 23 at the Halifax Convention Centre.
