FALL RIVER: Christmas season has officially kicked off in Fall River.
Mother Nature threatened to rain on the Christmas fun, but before the show began the sun came out and dried things up a tad after the early afternoon downpour.
It didn’t dampen the festive mood that hosts Pat Healey of The Laker News and Louise MacDonald of Joyful Sounds showed during the pre-show of the livestream and during the tree lighting event itself.
The event featured SuperTramp tribute band Breakfast in Halifax, plus the Joyful Sounds tree lighting singers. There was a lot more to the event, which saw a crowd estimated at 400 people to celebrate the tree lighting.

The tree lighting pre-show had messages from local schools including Holland Road School; Waverley Memorial School; Ash Lee Jeffersaon School; Georges P. Vanier Junior High; Lockview High; plus government representatives MLA Brian Wong; MP Darrell Samson; and Councillor Cathy Deagle Gammon.
Nova Scotia’s Chief medical officer of health Dr. Robert Strang and Premier Tim Houston also provided messages of the season on the pre-show.
The livestream of the tree lighting wouldn’t have happened without the support of: Jessica Plamondon Realto (The Pike Group); Barracuda Heating & Fuels; Premiere Mortgage; Dairy Queen Fall River; Payzants Home Hardware Lower Sackville; MLA Brian Wong; MP Darrell Samson; HRM Councillor Cathy Deagle Gammon; Fall River Guardian; and Fall River Water Wagon.
The tree lighting wouldn’t have been possible without the support of FRABA Event sponsors: Keller Williams Realty; Gerald Mitchell Contracting; CSD Security; Joyful Sounds; Hot Tub Universe; Sobeys Fall River; Aerotec Engines; Dairy Queen Fall River; MLA Brian Wong (grand prize Nintendo Switch supporter); Fall River Law; Tim Hortons Fall River; Fall River Chiropractic; Barracuda Heating; A&W Fall River; and Fall River Shoppers
At the tree lighting, Santa & Mrs. Claus came to visit and provide some inspiring words for Christmas season, while Olivia Chute, Jr. tricks Pan American waterskiing gold medalist and Canadian Olympian Ellie Black of Halifax.
Pat Healey interviewed the two of them and welcomed/thanked them for coming to the tree lighting.
Louise MacDonald interviewed Santa with questions submitted from the community.
The Joyful Sounds Tree Lighting singers provided some holiday inspiration with their two songs of the season, before Santa did his pledge.
It was then time to light the tree.
With Olivia and Ellie leading the countdown, along with Santa and Mrs Claus, the countdown was on and then at zero the tree came alive with lights.
Elizabeth Turple was the name drawn as winner of the Nintendo Switch.
Organizers wanted to thank everyone for coming out and all the support and positive feedback they received. Happy Holidays!
